After completing a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Utah in 1968, Dr. Cannon attended West Virginia University School of Dentistry graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1972 and was accepted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental fraternity. He then served for two years as a Captain in the United States Air Force dental corp before beginning a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he also completed a medical degree (MD) and one year of general surgery before returning to Utah to establish his clinical practice. He also completed a 6 month fellowship in Maxillofacial and Craniofacial surgery at the University of Glasgow, Cannesburn Hospital.
Dr. Cannon started his practice in 1980 and was active in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery including orthognathic surgery, trauma, reconstructive surgery, implant surgery and routine intraoral surgery such as wisdom teeth, bone grafting and prosthetic surgery. He became particularly interested in reconstructive surgery using dental implants in the early 80’s and eventually this become the focus of his practice concentrating on bone grafting and implants. He has lectured across the country on these topics as well as assisting in the pre-dental program at the University of Utah. In 2008 he associated with Dr. David Stoker who took over the practice in 2009 when Dr. Cannon left for the Philippines on a medical mission with the Craniofacial Foundation of the Philippines to do cleft lip and palate surgery and to establish an out patient surgical center in Manila for the Deseret International Foundation. He is currently semi-retired.
